On March 31st, we will celebrate Easter Sunday, so we are planning to finish the book of Matthew by March 17th for SWAG’s break. This means that we will need to double up on our reading for the next few Sundays.

Matthew: Chapter 22 (Jesus Asks the Pharisees a Question) 41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son, is he?” “The son of David,” they replied. 43 He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says,44 “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”’ 45 If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” 46 No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions. (NIV New International Version)

Matthew: Chapter 23 (Warning Against Hypocrisy) 5 Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others. (NIV New International Version)

Matthew: Chapter 24 (Signs of Christ’s Return) 3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” (NIV New International Version)

Matthew: Chapter 25 (Parable of the Talents) 14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. (NIV New International Version)

  3. In Matthew 24, which sign of the end times do you find the most intriguing? Please read it aloud and elaborate on why it captivates your interest the most.
  4. In Matthew 25 how many total additional bags of gold was accumulated when the master returned, use scripture to verify your answer? Considering your own personality, which talented servant would you be?
